We know the guys we are taking if for some reason they fall to us, but today I was asked who would I take in the first round. Now I would like to mention AJ Hawk is available for negotiations. I am going to looking at other drafts to base on who is available. I would like to mention that I have finally seen someone else put Cam as the first pick, I had it pre-combine.
Aldon Smith
All of sudden people have available. This guy is a beast and great athleticism. I know what your thinking. He's a 3-4 guy. Now I won't say this about every 3-4 LB, but him being a 3-4 guy makes him a safer pick. He's a safer pick because if he doesn't work out at LB, he can put his hand in the dirt and be a successful DE. This guy is a freak. While I don't know this, I read that he could have possibly been a top 5 pick had he gone back to school. I believe that looking at his frame he could bulk up and I don't know that we would want him to unless he plays DE. Now he has about an inch taller and about 5 pounds heavier than Ayers in comparison. In one mock draft I saw him as late as 28 and as early as 14. Now what has really hurt him is Julio. Which as much Julio would tremendously help this team, we need to start building a young athletic and physical defense.
Tyron Smith or Nate Solder
Now lets face there's a chance that Aldon isn't there. I think he is the guy you take if he is there that is most likely to be there. Now I'm all for trading down for Ayers to, but at 13 I think your looking Solder and Smith if Aldon is gone. I have to say I've been flip flopping in my head for a while about this one. I watched Solder in some of the drills and it was beautiful. Tyron sat out with a knee injury and I could change my mind after his pro day, but he is an excellent run blocker. I think they are both projects. I think Solder will become an excellent pass blocker in this league and Tyron will be more well rounded and be a good run blocker. Solder is a bigger project by far. Here's a guy who is extremely athletic, converted from TE. Who am I taking? I'm taking Smith, he's big and athletic. The measurements on him were great too by the way before he dropped out.
These aren't the best fit guys for us. We need to trade down and get value.
