Lions Free Agents

Megatron

I know he's not a free agent, but he's priority number one in my opinion. I know the saying buy low sell high. In contract terms don't do his contract after his best year. I don't care I think the Saints showing so much attention to Calvin and it didn't matter shows a lot. He is the franchise.

Cliff Avril

I'm going to get hammered by fans on this one. Avril is our speed strip sacker. I just think that we cannot give him the big contract he deserves. Turnovers are huge and I'm not going to say that we have the DEs to fill his role. All DEs were effective this year, but didn't create the turnovers this year. Unless he is willing to take less money to stay in Detroit we should let the lifer Lion go. I'm saying he should take a pay cut, I just think someone will offer him a better contract that we should be willing to pay. We need to get out of the salary cap issues we have this year.

Jeff Backus

He's old the market won't be that good for him. I think he's our starting left tackle next season and will transition into a backup player over the next couple of years. He shouldn't be too expensive so I'm a fan of keeping around. Backus had a solid year in my opinion.

Deandre Levy

I thought he sucked this year. He's a RFA and we will keep him around. He has to improve for the Lions too.

Stephen Tulloch

Had his worst game in the playoffs against the Saints. I think he'll be spendy, hopefully he is committed to being a Lion and won't be too expensive. This would be a huge blow if he left. Need to resign him, but with really every player except Megatron, there is a limit.

Eric Wright

He's a keeper. The market once again won't be that good for him. Should definitely be worth the bang for your buck.

Kevin Smith

Keep. The three headed monster of  Leshoure, Best, and Smith could be dangerous. With three starting RBs should help keep each other healthy and also dynamic. Remember those 3rd and ones we couldn't convert. Having a healthy Leshoure will change a lot and make that boot out of that heavy run set even more believable. Smith is an easy resign to keep the other two healthy. He's not worth much of a payday, because he is #3 on the depth chart next year. He made someone amazing cuts when his ankle was healthy, had good hands, and was dependable when healthy. Health will be an issue, but the Lions should be able to get him for the right price.

Maurice Morris

Mr. Dependable in my opinion. Should be cheap and I say keep. I like Maurice, as I'm always a fan for keeping young potential talent. Like Aaron Brown there is a point where they just don't see the field and having a Morris you know can block, run, and catch, you keep him.

Bobby Carpenter

Keeper. Dallas game showed he's a quality backup.

Erik Coleman

Chris Harris sucked against the Packers. Watching Wendling come in games was scary. He needs to be resigned.

Rashied Davis

Love the stories about his attitude. There are better WR and special teamers out there. Sorry I say cut ties.

Leonard Davis

Did you know he was a Lion? If you did props to you. He is yet to be activated. He was worth the shot, but now you know. Cut ties

Isiah Ekejiuba

I say keep. More than one guy has to play special teams. We really can't offer him much, but I don't think there is more money elsewhere. Doug Hogue would be able to fill his spot, but you still need more than 2 backup LBs.

Andre Fluellen

Tough decision, but I think this is Sean Cody except we have more depth. I think there are better options open for Fluellen out there. If there isn't much of a market I'd be glad to keep him around.

Ben Graham

Ryan Donahue is the punter. He had good year and deserves to play somewhere and I wish him the best. Cut ties

Chris Harris

There is a market for him. I think you have to cut ties Matt Flynn

Jerome Harris

RB - Morris, Smith, Leshoure, and Best nothing personal. I wish him the best with the surgery and everything.

Shaun Hill

I have no idea what his market will be. We have Stanton so keep to a certain cost.

Sammie Hill

No brainer, he had a great year. Keep

Corey Hillard

We are looking for the replacement of Backus and possibly Cherilus. That's asking a lot. He's got to go. I think he'll get a decent payday somewhere. Hopefully Fox or Culbreathe could eventually take over for Backus.

Stefan Logan

I think he did a good job at getting those few extra yards on punt returns. I think he has become another dime a dozen returner.  He's sadly got to go. A starting CB addressed in the draft are usually able to return. We need the roster spot. Thanks for the 2010 excitement though.

Brandon McDonald

Have to make a point of emphasis top tier CBs. Make room and cut ties

Don Muhlback

Need I say anymore. If you don't know he's our long snapper. Keep

Ashlee Palmer

Has to go. I thought he looked pretty good as a backup coming into this season. I keep Isiah ahead of him and both of them aren't staying.

Drew Stanton

Sign him to something long. He's a decent backup QB as a gamer and he's a great clip board holder. I believe he loves being in Michigan. Still young and well so is Stafford. So, we don't need to be grooming anyone yet.

Maurice Stovall

He's got great size, but I think you know what you get at this point. I don't think he is sitting on untapped potential at this point in his career. Three good WR and three good TEs, he doesn't see the field. Coverage team and potential something could us the roster spot.

Character vs Talent Draft Picks

I think there are three guys that are going to be tough to project that the Lions will need to look at.

Mike Adams

He stands 6'8" weighing in at 320 pounds. Possibly the best senior OT of this draft class. He projects as a second round pick. I'm curious to see if the scandal hurts him at all, maybe not. Kalil and Reiff are both Juniors and better talents. I don't think he will slip past the 2nd round. If he does I do think there was character issues concerned with some teams. Good third round pick in my opinion. I wouldn't have a problem with late second though either. Weird, we are a mid-late round pick.

Cliff Harris

Several driving charges and has had drug possession. Character is a big deal in the NFL now a days. Take away the police run ins and you have a very intriguing guy. He's a good punter returner, but there are a lot of good punter returners out there. He is extremely fast and very athletic. Harris is extremely raw, so with him you will hear the double edged sword of potential. I would project him as a 2nd round pick without the charges. He will be all across mock drafts. I see him as a day 3 guy right now. 5th round maybe, 6th go ahead and pull the trigger.

Quinton Coples

This guy is without a doubt a top ten talent. A lot of people are saying he had a drop in production this year. Not in my mind, 10 sacks to 7.5, 15.5 to 15 tackles for a loss. It's DE your not handed sacks year after year. He has bigger problems with his draft status. He has character issues, which is once again a big deal in the NFL. He's getting some bad stuff stamped to his name. Character issues and lack of motivation our huge issues for teams. Bowers of Clemson shocked me last year. A lot of people think this guy has fallen farther than anyone. Being a top ten guy (top 5 no) he'll probably fall to top 15 if he does fall out of the top ten. I just keep having bowers in the back of my head, though his was an injury issue. I do think the Lions should pass even if the off chance he is still there in the 1st round. Don't get me wrong, he's a solid 4-3 DE and if this wasn't the Lions I would have different feelings. They shouldn't move up to get the guy, which has become a 2nd round thing to do with Schwartz. Maybe this year it won't be for a RB. He's there Lions on the clock round two go ahead and pull the trigger. No way this happens though, but anything is possible.

Janoris Jenkins

I put him right behind Morris Claiborne of top CBs in this draft. CB is still going to be a need for us this off season. A top ten talent, two marijuana counts, and transferred to North Alabama. Some mock drafts might have him going in the top ten. I think at best he'll be a mid 1st round pick. When the possibility of him entering the supplement draft I said without a doubt use a third round pick, I'm shaky about a second round pick. Knowing where we are at I am no longer shaky about the second round pick. The Lions have to consider him in the first round. A player in trouble will never get on the field and then will have to restart somewhere else, I don't think they should use their third round pick on him. This guy is going to be all over the draft boards across the nation.

2012 Season

The season is now behind us and I'm proud of this team. I think a big difference between this year and last year was winning on the road week one, but I lets try our best to put week one 2010 behind us. Although I would like to be optimistic of next season, it's going to be a tough road. The Packers will be the Packers, but the Bears will be a little iffy in my opinion. Jermichael Finley and Matt Forte will be free agents next season. I do think they played well on the road in the playoffs against a team that a lot think will win it all. The season is now over and we have to move to free agency and draft. Free agency should happen a little earlier this season.
